Stories of strange activity at Fort Leavenworth often begin with the old prison buildings. Guards and staff have long reported hearing footsteps echoing through empty corridors late at night. Some claim the sounds are too deliberate to be explained by settling structures, describing the unmistakable rhythm of boots walking on concrete floors even when no one else is present.

One of the most frequently mentioned figures is that of a shadowy inmate seen near older cell blocks. Witnesses describe a dark shape standing just beyond the bars, only to vanish when approached.
