Poor Houses or County Homes

People often think that old, poor houses are "haunted" because they are more likely to have a tragic history, such as deaths that occurred in the house due to illness, accidents, inappropriate activities, or violence. These locations would also be used to house tuberculosis patients. Tragic events could leave behind "residual energy" that people interpret as ghostly activity. Additionally, the poor condition of these buildings can make people feel uneasy. These locations would be funded by local counties, but most have been closed in the mid-1980s to early 1990s due to lack of funding or reports of inappropriate activity. As a result, many of these abandoned sites have become the focus of urban explorers and paranormal enthusiasts, potentially stimulating the paranormal activity that is housed within.

Hotels

People often perceive hotels and motels as "haunted" due to their frequent visitors, who can leave behind residual energy. They are also often old, historic buildings that may have witnessed significant life events, such as deaths, which can create a sense of lingering spirits or "ghosts" in the space. Additionally, the unfamiliar environment and quiet nature of hotels can contribute to feelings of unease and vulnerability. These factors can increase people's likelihood of believing in paranormal experiences.

Factories or Mills

Old factories or mills are often considered "haunted" because of their history of potentially tragic accidents, harsh working conditions, and the large number of people who may have died on site during their operation. These factors have led to stories of lingering spirits attached to the building due to the traumatic experiences associated with the location. The dilapidated state of many abandoned locations also contributes to a spooky atmosphere, further fueling the belief in hauntings. Furthermore, old mills are also located near moving bodies of moving water (waterfalls), which could potentially act as fuel for the spirits to manifest.
