Aviles Street, which is in the historic district of St. Augustine, has long been identified as the oldest street in the United States. In the summer of 2010, this claim appears to have been authenticated by archaeologists. As it was dug up in two test sections, pottery from the 1600's was found over a meter down below the current brick road.

Bodies/Body parts are under Aviles Street.  When surgeons at the Spanish Military Hospital amputated limbs, they threw them/burried them on the grounds. Eventually, layers of street including the Reynolds bricks of Aviles street were laid down over them. When they were digging to fix the streets, they found numerous severed human  limb bones.

I heard a story once about the bricks on Aviles Street. The bricks on Aviles street (and a couple other streets) were laid down so that Henry Flagler's guests at his hotel would not have to walk on the dirt roads and get so dirty. They also have "Reynolds" imprinted on them. The story goes that there was some sort of dispute between Flagler and Reynolds over the price per brick and Flagler got the better end of the deal, but Reynolds made sure all the bricks said Reynolds on them so they would see his name all the way to the Flagler hotel.
