A full narrative history section

Not only is this location quite interesting, there is still some mystery surrounding the history of the building. There are stories that the house was built in 1884 for a Judge, while public records indicate that it was built in 1910. The problem with the public records is they don't go back farther than 1910. If you examine the foundation of the home, you can tell that it was built before the 1900's; also with the architecture and layout of the house it was a home for a prominent family.

Paranormal narrative section

Ira Caplinger

It takes hours to do research, unless you meet someone who gives you the information you need, like a DATE! I did just that when I met Sandie Shaffer, who once owned the Rogers House. She lived in it from 1971 to about 1995. While she never had any kind of "haunting" problems, she did say a rocking chair in their living room would rock by itself from time to time.

She told me about Ira Caplinger and the year and month he died. From there it was just a matter of looking him up in the cemetery index, and then it was on to the microfilm for the East Liverpool Review. The picture to the left shows Mr. Caplingers Obituary written on the day of his death.

A closer look shows that he died suddenly of an apparent heart attack. He was found by neighbors still in the front seat of his car at his home.

Being able to present evidence of the truth of a story is the most awesome thing!

We will continue our efforts to find the history, not only of The Haunted Rogers House, but also Rogers itself. If you have any stories you know and would like to share about Rogers or this house, please email me at ghosting12@yahoo.com.
