On November 16, 1895, 17 people died when Cleveland Electric Railway Company streetcar No. 642 plunged 100 feet from the open draw of the Central Viaduct into the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. The accident, caused by a failed safety gate on a foggy night, is considered one of Cleveland's worst early transportation disasters. In this cemetery is the grave sight of the conductor of that streetcar, Edward Hoffman.
