The Lake County History Center Museum and Historic Village is an 8-acre complex located minutes from I90 in Painesville Township, about 25 miles east of Cleveland. The Center contains a main museum building, originally built as the Lake County Poor House in 1876. This beautiful Italianate structure has two levels open to the public with exhibit galleries, classrooms and research library rooms available. Exhibits change yearly; current displays can be found on the Society's website at www.LakeHistory.org. The Museum is famous for housing the only collection of Magical Musical Machines in Ohio. This collection of 20th century mechanical musical boxes vary in size from inches to feet and play music usually never before heard by guests. Another wing is filled with unique Civil War artifacts and stories. The library has extensive manuscripts and records of local history. It is open to the public and researching assistance is available. Operated by the Lake County Historical Society, the complex also contains an historic village used for first person interpretation of Ohio's early years for school field trips and summer visitors and a Native American Whittlesey Focus village that is under construction. The extensive grounds of the Center are used for special event programs year around; check the website for details. The buildings and grounds are handicapped accessible. The Center contains a gift shop, rental space, is available for group tours and offers free parking.

Stories are just that. Stories and personal accounts that have been reported about the location.

Is there any paranormal activity?

Carrie: A & E taped "Episode #70: The Forgotten Ones" out here last summer, and they said that they did get a lot of activity here. One Friday every month, we do the Lantern Ghost Walks along with the Willoughby Ghost Hunters. Apparently one week, they put a flashlight on the floor of the attic and it was turning on and off by itself. People have said chairs mysteriously move, people have claimed to hear a baby crying, and others say they hear children's laughter.
